Common questions and answers regarding the treatments we offer at The Anti-Ageing Clinic.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Q: Is it safe?

A: Yes.  It has been used for over 30 years without any known long-term problems and has been approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.

Q: Does it hurt?

A: Some clients feel a slight stinging sensation during treatment, but usually there is no discomfort at all.

Q: How long will treatment take?

A: Consultation and treatment takes about half an hour.  Many clients pop in during their lunch hour.

Q: When will I see results?

A: You'll begin to see an improvement after about a week. The full effect will be seen a week or two later.

Q: How long will the effects last?

A: The effect usually last for between three and four months, but it can last even longer. To maintain optimum results it is advised to have treatment every three to four months.If I stop using Botox®, will my lines look worse than they did before?
No. The effect is only temporary and if you stop the treatment your lines will look the same as they did before.

Q: Who can have treatment?

A: Almost everyone, except women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Q: How will I look after treatment?

A: For the first few hours there is a slight reddening of the skin, but this can easily be covered with make-up.

Q: What can't I do after the treatment?

A: For the first 3 hours or so you shouldn't drink alcohol, do exercise or lie flat.  Otherwise, just carry on as normal.

Q: Will it freeze my face or make it numb?

A: No. There is no change to the way  your skin will feel sensations and by injecting only specific muscles we can minimise any loss of facial expression.

Q: What are the side effects?

A: Side effects are rare but there can be a slight bruising to the treated area and it can make your eyelid droop. In the unlikely event that you experience this, it should only lasts for about a week. Some people have also been known to experience headaches.

Q: Can it be used with other treatments?

A: In many cases the best possible result occurs when Botox® is used with complementary treatments such as dermal fillers, Isolagen, glycolic peels and laser.

Dermal Fillers

Q: Will it hurt?

A: There can be a little discomfort, but this is minimised by the use of topical anaesthetic or, in the case of lip enhancement, a local anaesthetic.

Q: How long before I see the result?

A: You'll see the difference immediately.However, the best results are seen at about four to six weeks.

Q: How will I look after treatment?

A: There can be a little redness and swelling immediately afterwards, but this will usually settle down after a couple of days.  After lip enhancement it may last a little longer, but usually less than a week.

Q: Are there many side effects?

A: Apart from some redness and a little swelling immediately after treatment the only real side effect is slight bruising which can occur in some cases, this generally lasts a few days.

Q: How long will treatment take?

A: Consultation and treatment will take about half an hour.

Q: Do I need tests to see if I'm suitable for treatment?

A: No. Because these are naturally present in the body, they are extremely safe to use.

Q: What can't I do after the treatment?

A: You should wait a few days before having a facial or similar treatment and it's best to avoid strong sunlight for a few days too.  Otherwise, just carry on as normal.

Q: How long will it last?

A: For most people the treatment lasts approximately six months.To maintain optimum results it is advised to have treatment every six months.

Q: Can I top it up again?

A: Absolutely, Most patients make an appointment to see us again when they feel the effects are beginning to wear off, which is generally between six and seven months later.

Q: If I don't repeat the treatment how will I look?

A: Because these fillers are a naturally occurring substance, the body slowly breaks them down. If you decide not to repeat the treatment your face will return to the way it looked before the treatment.

Q: Who can have the treatment?

A: Almost everyone, except women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Q: Can it be used with Botox®

A: In many cases the best possible result occurs when fillers are used with complementary treatment such as Botox®.

Amelan

Q: What is Amelan® used for?

A: Amelan® is used for the treatment of pigmentation (brown patches) on the skin. It is also used for facial rejuvenation.

Q: What does the treatment involve?

A: The treatment involves the application of facial mask. This is applied by the Doctor and also a home care regime must also be followed.

Q: Will I peel?

A: Yes you will peel, but it will be minimal.

Q: Is it painful?

A: No there is no pain however you may feel a slight tingling sensation.

Q: Can it be used on all skin types?

A: Yes it is compatible with all skin types.

Q: Is it safe?

A: It is completely safe with minimal side effects.

Q: Can I wear make-up?

A: Make-up can be worn the day after treatment.

Q: How successful is it?

A: It is effective in 95% of cases.

Obagi System

Q: Is Obagi Nu Derm skin care sold in the department store?

A: The only way to rejuvenate your skin is to reach below the surface and work at the cellular level. That takes the knowledge and guidance of a doctor, supervising a medically prescribed Skin Health Restoration system. The Obagi Nu-Derm System is available only through a physician.

Q: What does the Obagi Nu Derm program cost?

A: Depending on the degree of skin damage and product usage, the yearly cost of the Obagi System is very competitive and usually less than prestigious department store brands.

Q: What skin conditions does the Obagi System improve?

A: TThe Obagi Nu-Derm System of correction and stimulation will:

• Diminish the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
• Increase smoothness
• Reduce pore size
• Improve elasticity
• Generate a balanced, even skin tone
• Normalize oil production
• Reduce age spots and/or hyperpigmentation

Q: Can I use my regular moisturizer with the Obagi Nu Derm System?

A: The Obagi Nu-Derm System uses medically prescribed products in conjunction with tretinoin therapy to restore the natural glow and elasticity of healthy skin. Importantly, Obagi stimulates at the cellular level to increase collagen and elastin and to renew the flow of natural moisture to the surface. The Obagi Nu-Derm products are designed to work synergistically with each other and should not be mixed with other products.

Q: I have sensitive skin, can I used the Obagi Nu Derm System?

A: Yes, your doctor will design a specific Obagi Nu Derm program for your skin type and color, and will determine the proper course of action that is right for you and your lifestyle.

Q: After I finish my Obagi Nu Derm treatment program should I go back to my regular skin care products?

A: After the treatment it is easy to maintain your new, healthy, younger-looking skin for a lifetime with the Obagi Nu-Derm System. With your doctor's advice, it will be simple to develop a maintenance Obagi Skin Care regimen that fits your skin type and the nature of your skin problems.

Q: I'd really like to improve my appearance but don't want a drastic change. Should I consider cosmetic surgery?

A: You should start with the Obagi Skin Health Restoration program. After you have completed the Obagi Nu-Derm program, you will notice dramatic results in the appearance of your skin. You may decide that this improvement is all you need for now, postponing more invasive and expensive procedures.
